I really hope this is real just because it's sooo deliciously ignorant. There do seem to be some hints that it's fake, though, plus it's very over-the-top. Liz and TDO, you guys especially gotta see it: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JvVAV09-dQ8

Easy, delicious Indian food at home:

http://www.aroracreations.com/
These have been a favorite for quite some time. I usually increase the ingredients and stretch the packets a little, plus I add salt and septuple the recommended chili peppers. These just include the powdered spices, so you add ginger, garlic, onions, chilis, and cilantro fresh (in addition to the base ingredients). This makes for a fresh, bold taste.

I don't expect much from jar sauces. Actually I expect them to be bland and inedible, based on exhaustive experience (I still can't resist giving a new one a shot.) You don't usually see vindaloo in jar sauces, and the texture and bright red oil floating in the sauce looked good. Also, it has "HOT HOT HOT HOT HOT" wrapped around the top and bottom of the label, not that I would trust it. But this was delicious! Spicy, with the vindaloo afterburn that left a ring of tingly fire around the outside of my lips. I didn't have to tweak it, either. Just dumped it in the pan.

I'm still working my way through the selection, but so far it's very promising. The dal in particular was authentic and easy, though if I was less lazy it would also be the simplest one to make from scratch with fresh ground spices. Some of these are dry and some are pastes.

Rice tip #1: My favorite basmati rice is HT Trader's brand, which might be a store brand repackaging of the even more expensive Rice Select line. It's more flavorful than the other basmatis I've tried, and the package instructions actually work.

Rice tip #2: If you wanna be healthy with brown rice, but have trouble cooking it, try Alton's baked method. Don't skip the oil, it helps a lot. http://www.goodeatsfanpage.com/Season8/rice/do_the_rice_thing_trans.htm

Samosas: The best frozen samosas I've found are called Tandoor Chef, and come in a bright orange box that I can't find a picture of right now.

Note to Leezechka: [Nov. 15th, 2008|07:31 am]
Note to Leezechka: You need to give Skins a try. In a lot of ways it's a mix of Degrassi and Queer as Folk... raunchy and unrealistically debauched (full of vicarious pleasures), with pretty close to age appropriate actors. I'm more and more invested in the characters and storylines as I watch it. Meanwhile, Degrassi is losing me with this new class. None of the grade-niners can act worth a damn.

Wii Fit update: It's getting very frustrating that my weight has stayed the same for maybe two weeks now. It goes up and down a bit, but always stays around 125 pounds. I still seem to be losing fat and gaining muscle, and the two are keeping me at equilibrium on the scale. I know it's silly to be frustrated by this but the Wii Fit board seems perplexed by my lack of progress, never thinking to ask about muscle weight.

Wii Fit: Day 14 [Nov. 1st, 2008|08:02 am]
[Current Mood | cheerful]

I've done an hour a day on the Wii Fit since we got it, including a half hour of yoga in the morning and now alternating between aerobics and strength training. I've also been keeping an eye on my calorie totals.

I'm probably not going to reach my goal weight by tomorrow, but the fat has been melting off. I'm sure the lack of movement on the scale is due to the muscle I've been putting on. My arms are defined, my legs are stronger, and my abdomen seems to have developed steel cables to either side. I estimate that I've gotten rid of about six months of slow fat creep in two weeks.

I NEVER thought I'd see these kinds of results so fast, and while I've had some days of sore muscles, I haven't been exhausted or miserable. I <3 Wii Fit!!

Copy this sentence into your livejournal if you're in a heterosexual marriage, and you don't want it "protected" by the bigots who think that gay marriage hurts it somehow.
